Week (6) of cakes and rock climbing – double bliss and solitude!

Cake news and fun

So hard to choose which photos best represent bliss for me:  cakes or climbing?  So the rock and desserts are photo-collaged together!  Not the most artistic arrangement but this is double-bliss for me!  Then I gave Montserrat its own space.  It deserves it.  I took this photo a few years ago but climbed there recently and it still looks as beautiful.

Montserrat – Catalunya’s magical mountains and a climber’s paradise.

Photo101 people may want to scroll down to ‘Bliss’ and ‘Solitude’.  ‘Cause it’s time for my weekly cake-making resumé!   And a very exciting week it was too, with a twist as my new fruitcake-cake anglais recipe went off to live at biker Hogrider Dookes’ blog as my first Guest Post!

Then my raspberry charlotte was met with cries of enthusiasm and almost became the first big-headed cake in history (note: the raspberry quantities have been amended).  I also had fun creating an experimental but very easy raspberry, avocado mousse and pistachio verrineYou should make it and discover how absolutely delicious it is!  Did you know in some areas of South America people never eat avocado with salt, but always with sugar and perhaps some lemon?

I’m still working on the savoury cake, which received mixed reviews amongst climbing friends at the rock with comments varying from delicious to um… not so good!  Everyone helped themselves to more slices but it needs work.  I’ve tried a cupcake version with less olives, but…  back to the drawing board!

Spent the weekend climbing in Siurana and Margalef, some of the most beautiful areas in Catalunya.  And yes, that’s my kind of bliss.  I enjoy simple things like the sun coming through my window and a stranger’s smile but my bliss also involves fresh air, friends, excellent food at a village bar and, of course, climbing the rock and forgetting all the problems in the world as you just focus on getting up there.  And the same goes for cakes!

This brings me to my Solitude photos because though your partner below is holding you on the rope and supporting you, there usually comes a point where you feel alone up there thinking only about your next moves. And you forget everything else. It can be a solitude filled with apprehension, joy, just being or a mixture of all these feelings. In the silence of andrenalin blocking out the world.

So bye for now sweet reader and hope you’ll always be surrounded by whatever makes you happy even in solitude. And if you sometimes go off route, may you always find your way back on the road to moments of bliss!

P.S.  Perhaps with a little cake in your hand! 🙂

Baking on Sundays with my French mum was a lovely part of my childhood. Later I experimented with baking books or internet recipes and did the pâtisserie course at Le Cordon Bleu Paris. Still trying out new recipes and inventing cakes with influences from all around the world, including some healthier ones. Yes, love cakes!!! Hope you'll love them too and have fun baking. :)

      • Don’t think I could do the rock climbing though. Not that I’m afraid of heights (I’m not) it’s just that I tend to fall and trip a lot…. yes, even over things that aren’t actually there!

      • Me too – which is why being attached to a rope comes in handy! 🙂

    • Thanks Donna! Happy you like the pictures! A lot of people wouldn’t want to go climbing, but you could always give it a go one day just to see! And then not go all the way up if you’re really terrified…

    • Thanks Sue! Glad you like the cakes and photos. Though sorry you didn’t enjoy the climbing … never mind, lots of other things in life – like cakes and just looking at beautiful scenery! 🙂

    • Thank you!! I do really like balancing the two things in my life – the climbing stops me eating toooo many cakes! 🙂 I’m happy you enjoyed the photos and combi! 🙂

    • Thank you Linda! 🙂 And you must of course follow your coeur! 🙂 Or choose both! I kind of agree with you though – if I absolutely had to choose one!
